Lulu's Fund is a memorial fund in honor of our sweet angel baby who was taken from us too soon. We raise money through it for rotating beneficiaries including animal rescues/shelters, veteran services, and various other charities.
Lulu was the owner, Ray's puppy. She was a rescue adopted in 2021 through a local shelter and was a little spitfire. At 8 months old, he took her to get spayed. She was recovering well, until she started to get unusually stiff in the legs and ears. His vet could not figure out what was going on, and neither could we, even after scouring the internet and reaching out to other vets for help. After days with no answers and Lulu only getting worse, Ray rushed her to OVRS where a resident vet happened to reconize her symptoms from a dog they treated on the east coast. She was diagnosed with tetanus, and was one of only a few confirmed cases throughout the entire United States.
Lulu began treatment, but unfortunately, the tetanus had already done significant damage to her nerves and muscles. There was a very slim chance that Lulu would ever walk again, even after full treatment. Ray and his family made the incredibly gut-wrenching decision to humanely euthanise her. Her ashes are safely at the Holdwick house, and she will be buried with her humans once their time comes.
